THUNDER TEAMS JULY RESULTS 2009
Arizona Thunder Teams on the road in July
The Arizona Thunder hit the road during the July NCAA viewing periods with its four travel teams participating in six tournaments in six different cities. Overall, the club amassed a 36 - 19 record for the month, garnering multiple trophies and all-tournament selections.
End of the Oregon Trail - Oregon City, Oregon
Thunder Donahue competed in the top National Division and ended with a 3-2 record in the Diamond Bracket. They won their first two games and suffered a heartbreaking loss at the buzzer to the Omaha Crusaders.
Thunder Spurlock won it's first game, but dropped the second game, putting them in the 6th place bracket of the White bracket. The Spurlock Team won the next three in a row to take home the 6th place trophy in the American Division. Felicia Foster (Copper Canyon) and Kiara Moore (Tolleson) achieved all- tournament status for their play.
MSNM - Seattle
Thunder-Spurlock continued its winning ways in the Northwest posting a 4-1 record. After losing a 1-point game to Hoop Dreams of Idaho, the 16U team rattled off four wins in a row by an average of 24 points.
Thunder-Carlise made its July debut with a 4-2 record with the young 15U team.
Nike Tournament of Champions - Chicago, Illinois area
Thunder-Nelson was the clubs sole representative at this highly competitive tournament. The young group had a 2-4 record.
Music City Madness - Nashville Tennessee area
Thunder-Donahue attended the inaugural edition of the Nashville tournament. The 17U stars lost a tough game to the Oklahoma Mustangs in their first outing but came back to win four in a row and capture 6th place in the Diamond Bracket. Justine Johnson (Gilbert) and Maylinn Smith (Mesquite) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Nike Oasis Tournament - Phoenix, Arizona area
Both Thunder-Carlise and Thunder-Nelson stayed home to play in the Nike Oasis Tournament. Nelson compiled a 4-2 overall record finishing second in its pool while Carlise won its pool to advance to the semi-finals. Carlise won its semi-final game vs the Sting but lost to a New York team in the final to take home a second place finish in the division with a 5-2 overall record for the tournament.
MSNM-San Diego, California
Thunder Donahue ended up 2-3 in the final tournament of the season, losing the three games by a total of eight points.
Thunder Spurlock and Carlise combined efforts in San Diego and the mixed team won its first four games. The girls lost in the semi-finals and eventually finished in fourth place.
